Fixed Wireless

Challenges

Fixed wireless broadband is a business not only in cities in underdeveloped countries but also in the remote area of most developed countries like North America and Europe. The key value of fixed wireless broadband is to solve the last few kilometers access. But it is almost impossible to make this business profitable using traditional LTE solutions due to a series of reasons:

High CPAEX

The traditional LTE solution requires a huge centralized EPC, which dramatically increases the initial investment for fixed wireless business. And old fashioned eNB is also large and heavy, with a bigger footprint and costly installation.

High OPEX

Traditional LTE solution is very complex due to the requirements from mobile business, which is not necessary for fixed wireless scenarios and brings an additional challenge to maintenance teams of wireless ISPs.

High cost of backhaul

The standard architecture of LTE is with a centralized EPC, which needs to route all the traffic to a centralized node and then to the Internet. However, the backhauling cost is high for such architecture, since it requires good bandwidth and quality of transmission

Hybrid Solar Power system

Lack of value added services in traditional LTE To remain competitive in the market and seize high value enterprise customers, the best solution is to be able to seamlessly migrate these customers while supporting the network’s L2 and L3 modes of intranet operations. However, layer 2 VPN functions cannot be supported solely by the LTE standard and this will pose a great challenge for wireless broadband operators to sign up enterprise customers.

Highlights

Compact eNB

● All in one box design, One Box, One Site

Plug and play, LTE easy as WiFi.

Support both licensed and unlicensed spectrum.

Easy maintenance

The NMS is able to monitor, control, and modify all the network elements, including the core network, eNB and CPE. Also signaling trace will enable quick trouble shooting to make the maintenance easier and bring down the OPEX.

HaloB - Distributed core network for CAPEX and OPEX saving

• The centralized EPC is replaced by distributed EPC which is embedded in each eNB.

• Reliability totally guaranteed with distributed control plane.

• Backhaul requirements are greatly reduced with traffic local breakout

The traffic and the control signaling of LTE can be separated, and the traffic can be offloaded directly to internet (figure above). This will reduce the backhaul cost from eNB to EPC and save OPEX.
