CBRS stands for established Citizen Broadband Radio Service, which is established by FCC (Federal Communications Commission). It aims to share commercial use of the 3.5 GHz band. The process of assigning spectrum is automated, with several Spectrum Access System (SAS) coordinating the scheme nationwide.
Dynamic spectrum sharing of 3.5GHz band provides a solution to ever growing demand for capacity as well as opens the market for new business opportunities and business models for new comers and existing MNO’s, such as Private LTE networks, Neutral Host Networks (NHN), Fixed-Wireless Internet Services, CBRS-LTE mobile hotspots and Backhaul over CBRS’ band.
Solution for different customers
● Frequency band: 3550~3650 MHz
● Each PAL license covers a 10MHz channel for a three-year term
● Maximum 70MHz for PAL in a region, and maximum 4 PAL license for one company
● Frequency band: 3550~3700MHz
● No license needed
● Lowest priority, could use any portion of the 150MHz band not assigned to higher tier users.
Mobile Operator Capacity Augmentation
a. 3.5 GHz GAA spectrum bands can be used as supplementary data links as defined in the LTE-U/LAA/eLAA construct while a licensed band is used as the “anchor” carrier for control signaling and
b. TD-LTE on the CBRS bands can transport both control signaling and data traffic over the3.5 GHz shared spectrum
New Entrant (MVNO)
CBRS is a great option for new entrant like cable operators to build out an LTE network, and is a compelling traffic offload option for the cable operators looking to enter the mobile wireless industry with a mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) strategy. For the cable operator, which means offloading subscriber traffic over to owned LTE-based networks as much as possible to reduce the MVNO expenses.
Enterprise Private LTE
CBRS radios that support a multi-operator capability and run seamless LTE services are a powerful improvement for large enterprise, instead of using Wi-Fi and DAS, which are a poor substitute of voice service and too expensive, respectively. To create a private LTE network allows enterprise to tap into broader device and APP store ecosystems, for instance:

CBRS solution was firstly deployed in City of Whitesburg, Unites States. CBRS allows for an additional 100 MHz of spectrum (3.55 GHz to 3.65 GHz) to be used as the Whitesburg network grows from both a capacity and a coverage perspective.
